This season, there’s been a lot of rock and roll inspired fashion and accessories. From high end designers to main stream mass retailers, it’s all about rough and touch accessories – especially leather cuff bracelets. But the question remains, can these pieces be worn and worked into the wardrobe of an everyday woman? Or, should they remain stage accessories for the real music pros?
Leather has always been a bit edgy and a bit sexy. There’s something about the look and feel of the fabric, the smell of it and the way that it only gets better with age. Leather bracelets certainly are “all the rage” right now, but if your not Angelina Jolie or Catwoman does that mean you can still get away with wearing them? We say yes. The key is use moderation and discerning judgment.
Sure, you’ve seen the studded and spiked biker leather bracelets, but that doesn’t mean you have to run right out and buy one. Instead, look for toned down versions of this trend. Try bracelets that have a great design on the leather, or ones that are woven together. These both offer a feminine take on this very masculine trend. A great way to wear these bracelets is to pair them with fabrics that are very delicate (think lace, chiffon or satin). This creates a great contrast and leaves you with a look that isn’t too scary!
If you are brave enough to wear studded leather bracelets, let those accessories take center stage and keep the rest of your jewelry minimal (just your wedding ring or a watch). Also, remember that no matter how popular the trend, your boss probably won’t dig your rock and roll inspired bracelets. Save these for outside the office when you’re going to happy hour, a club, a concert, etc.
